In only a short amount of time, Tom Hardy has seen his star rise from being the breakout star in Inception to possibly shining as bright as ever with a franchise of his own with the highly anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road, being the first of a potential trilogy. Now with major Hollywood superstars circling comic book projects as a way to boost their stock, and pocket some nice money, some might wonder why Hardy signed on as the star of the potential franchise, being that his version of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises was potentially a one and done deal, being that Christopher Nolan is no longer making Batman movies, having completed his trilogy and moved on to the likes of Interstellar.
Hardy was forced to drop out of DC’s upcoming Suicide Squad film, for which Robocop’s star Joel Kinnaman took over in his place. He recently spoke on why he made the decision to leave the project with Collider, here’s why:
“There’s a very practical element as to why I’ve missed out on that foray, which is because Alejandro has overshot by three months in Calgary, so we’ve got to go back out to Patagonia or Alaska to continue shooting The Revenant, which has turned into a much bigger beast than we thought, but that also looks exceptional…
“Literally we wrapped in Calgary for now until we go back in July. It would have smashed the two, I would’ve had a beard. It was just not gonna happen so I got ass-slammed technically out of Suicide Squad, gutted, so I had to hand it over to Joel Kinnaman, who will do an amazing job.”
Collider also asked in their interview with Hardy and asked if there are any other superhero projects he’d want to star in. Here’s what he had to say:
“I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want. … I’m not big enough to be The Punisher, I’m 5’9” [Laughs]. … Frank Castle, I would love it.”
Hardy has long been attached to star in a film based on the popular Splinter Cell video game series under director Doug Liman, but there has been little movement reported on that in nearly a year.
Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher, has been given 3 somewhat decent shots at movies, but now, the character’s movie rights have been reverted back to Marvel, it seems that the company would make a little better Punisher series/movie in somewhat similar fashion to the way they did things with Daredevil on Netflix. Especially since The Punisher is a littler darker and more violent than Daredevil is…
By the way, if you haven’t seen Daredevil on Netlfix by now, shame on you!!!
