I’ve been an avid Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories I can recall popping episode 6 A New Hope in the VCR and watching it on repeat. It’s been engrained into me and become a part of who I am. So needless to say it was a pretty big shock to my system when I heard Lucas Film was selling the Star Wars franchise to Disney. When I first read the article I remember an unintentional gasp escaped from my lungs, a reflex reaction. I quickly regained my composure after what felt like 10 minutes blankly staring at the screen. I remembered how everyone thought it would be the end of the world when Marvel was sold to Disney or at least I felt that way. Lo and behold the world didn’t end, and life as we know it went on. The Marvel universe creative team remained in place and the same was to be true regarding Star Wars. The Marvel film universe went on to release some top notch films and become more profitable than they have been in years. I don’t see any reason as to why this acquisition by Disney could be anything but positive.
That brings me where I am now. I was very anxiously and cautiously awaiting the beginning of Star Wars Rebels as it was the very first show birthed from the Disney acquisition of the franchise. Long story short I love it! Rebels immediately feels familiar, and just like how a show in the star wars franchise should feel. This familiarity makes it relatively easy to get over the fact that all of the characters this far are new, albeit very likeable. The Story takes place 5 years before the events in episode 4 A New Hope, during the time of the new galactic empires rule. The story follows a ragtag group who little known to the empire is the spark that ignites the fire that will become the rebellion against the empire.
Needless to say I’m very excited where this show is going, and will keep my eyes peeled every Monday at 9:00pm Eastern time on Disney XD.
