Matt Damon has been a busy man, popping up in Interstellar, putting out The Martian in the coming weeks, but it has been a while since he took the big screen as Jason Bourne (8 years!). The last time was in 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum. Since then, we’ve had all sorts of occurrences in the world, we’ve had cyber attacks on major movie studios and even Edward Snowden exposing the NSA’s “big brother” surveillance tactics and many financial crises all over the world.
“Without giving to much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon told BuzzFeed while promoting The Martian. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”
Damon also touched on locations where Bourne will be filming, which include Greece and ends in Las Vegas.
The next Bourne film will hit theaters July 29th, 2016.
So far, the cast includes Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles. The director will also be Paul Greengrass, who also directed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum of the Bourne film series.
