Yes, I went and watch Pitch Perfect 2! I have an 11 year old daughter, she loves music, loves to sing and besides making her go to EVERY SINGLE comic book and action movie that I have ever went to see, I thought I could go see this with her and make her happy…
Pitch Perfect 2 stars: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Adam DeVine, Katy Sagal, Ester Dean and others. It is directed by Elizabeth Banks, who also stars in the movie.
Pitch Perfect 2 is the continuation of a capella group the Barden University Bellas, after winning their National Championship, performing for the President and First Lady, when Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) is doing Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” and does the splits, flips upside down and flashes EVERYONE with a view of her “great down-under.” The embarrassment ensues, the Bellas lose their place on their tour to Das Sound Machine (DSM), a German a capella group. Shortly after all of the embarrassment, Beca (Anna Kendrick) takes on an internship role at a big studio, she hides this from her Bella sisters. Meanwhile, at school, the Bellas are sanctioned by not being allowed to audition members. They find a loop-hole to add a sister by adding a “legacy,” a daughter of a former member, Emily (Hailee Steinfeld). Her mother Katherine (Katy Sagal) was a former member of the Barden Bellas. Emily is a guitar player and songwriter. There’s a competition that takes place where 5 groups have a “sing-off.” This is where DSM and the Barden Bellas first meet. There’s also a couple of other groups, including the Green Bay Packers featuring lead vocals from Clay Matthews. Emily gets put on the spot as the Bellas and DSM are the final groups, vying for a $42,000 gift card to Dave & Busters (subtle product placement!), she starts singing an original song, which is ultimately frowned upon in a competition where covers of “hits” are preferred. The songwriting ultimately ends up helping Beca at her internship and she uses what she knows to make a Christmas “hit” for Snoop Doggy Dogg. This movie is about music, singing and “family”, so to speak, whether it’s the mother/daughter dynamic or the sisterhood dynamic. You can’t do EVERYTHING by yourself, but if you include others, you have a chance at coming up with different ways of enduring, such is life!
There is a lot of humor, that being said, there’s a couple of lines that do indeed cross the line, but it wasn’t bad enough to where I wouldn’t let my 11 year old daughter watch it again and again and again, like she did with the first Pitch Perfect.
