I’m not sure how I feel about this casting, but Jim Parsons seems to think it’d be a good idea. Parsons, better known for his Emmy award winning role as Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory, is currently on tour promoting his newest film Home. During an interview with MTV he was questioned about potential upcoming roles, specifically roles to do within the superhero genre.
“I would love to play a superhero in a movie,” Parsons tells MTV. “I would like to be a villain. And…I would really like to play The Riddler. I don’t feel they’re using the Riddler very much, are they?”
See the interview below:
He certainly isn’t wrong. The last time we saw a live action Riddler was in 1995’s Batman forever, about 20 years ago. While Cory Michael Smith is currently portraying Edward Nigma in the popular Gotham TV series, he has yet to don the Riddler persona.
The Riddler has been used as a villain in all the Batman Arkham video games, and has made appearances in animated films (Batman: Assault on Arkham) and comics. Perhaps a revisiting of the Riddler, taken seriously this time, is in order? The question remains. Is Jim Parson the correct actor to do that?
