F. Gary Gray talks Marvels Black Panther

After Ava DuVernay took herself out contention to take the helm of Marvel’s Black Panther there has been a lot of quiet on the topic of who would actually be the director. We’re supposed to find out some “official word” by the end of summer, from what Marvel’s Kevin Feige said. It could happen during Marvel’s presentation at the D23 Expo on August 15th. Until that day comes, all we can do is throw some educated guesses together…

During his press tour for Straight Outta Compton, director F. Gary Gray, who has directed quite a few films, including Law Abiding Citizen, The Italian Job, A Man Apart, Set It Off, Be Cool, cult classic Friday and others, was

Having worked in the hip-hop & r&b world of radio, I’ve had the chance to speak with this man along with Ice Cube on the phone and via e-mail before. Both he and Cube were easy to talk to yet they talked growing their brand and not just staying locked in to one genre of movie. Directing The Italian Job and A Man Apart, I could see F. Gary Gray doing something in the Marvel universe. He was “in contention” til the very end to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
