Joss Whedon Will Direct Batgirl Film

Batgirl is next for the DC Extended Universe.

It’s the comics war all over again as DC and Marvel continue to build on their extensive movie and television empires. The latest news steals a modern Marvel icon over the the DC universe. Joss Whedon (Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has taken up the mantel of Batgirl. Warner Bros. has announced this iconic character will get her own standalone movie.

Batgirl’s helm has been worn by several characters since her first appearance in the 1960s, and no news yet as to which Batgirl will don the cape. I’m sure fans are voting for the most recognizable character of Barbara Gordon. This film will also feature other characters in Gotham.

Joss Whedon is a perfect fit for this project. He is experienced writing empowering female characters, blending action and story, and directing a comic universe.

DC’s Extended Universe has grown exponentially, and continues. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Justice League all release later this year.
