Dwayne Johnson had long been rumored for a DC role (partially because he tweeted as much). He even went as far as to post a picture on Instagram HERE with the hashtag:#JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss. This, to many, confirmed he’d be taking up the mantle of the Green Lantern, which if true, would mean Ryan Reynolds was going to be ditched after the flop that was his version of the Green Lantern.
However, it seems he may have had a change of heart (or maybe DC refused him the role?) as he later refuted it himself via Twitter.

In a recent interview with site TotalFilm for the upcoming movie Hercules, Dwayne was asked about the rumor(mostly self started) of him playing a DC character. The former wrestler confirmed he WOULD be playing a DC character but remained coy as to who exactly that would be. He did, however drop a hint:
“I will say this. There’s a character out there that we’re going to announce very soon that I’m going to play, and I’ll just say this: This character has the power of Superman, he can throw down. Just say the word. That’s all I’m going to say.”
This is almost an outright confirmation of who he will be playing: Shazam AKA Captain Marvel. The “word” being “Shazam” which Billy uses to transform into his powerful alter ego. There is the slight chance he could be playing Black Adam as he also fits the description (both at Superman’s power level and both use the word Shazam to activate their powers). However I personally believe DC would like to take the utmost advantage of the attention that an actor of The Rock’s caliber and stature would bring to the film. Dwayne was, after all, named as the Top Grossing actor of 2013 by Forbes.
What say you? Is the Rock a good fit for either Shazam or Black Adam? Which of the two magic based superheroes would you rather see him portray?
